Highway superintendent reports on mining permit, estimates 5,800 cubic yards of fill; new truck due in March

Highway Superintendent Chad Evans presented his January 2026 reports and discussed ongoing operations at the Feb. 9 board meeting. Evans said he is waiting on approval of a mining permit and that approximately 7.2 acres were disturbed. He estimated about 5,800 cubic yards of fill will be needed to restore the site.
Evans also told the board the new highway truck is expected to be delivered at the end of March 2026; he said board members should consider whether to fund the vehicle via a Bond Anticipation Note or a longer-term bond. The board accepted the highway superintendent's written and oral reports by voice vote.
On staffing and internal concerns, Superintendent Evans said, "I request any employee or highway department related issues be brought to my attention before pursuing other avenues." The board asked for clarification on several points and Evans provided additional details as requested.
