LCAP update: district maintains focus on early literacy, mental health and family engagement

District staff presented the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) year-two report and priorities as the district moves into year three of the three-year plan. The presentation emphasized three central goals: academic success and student outcomes; student wellness and mental health; and family engagement, inclusion and belonging. The presenter said the district has focused this year on early literacy and mathematics, expanded counseling and wellness supports at the middle-school level, and continued partnerships with the Center for Educational Leadership.
Staff also reviewed LCAP funding trends: the percentage of district revenue tied to LCAP work has grown (staff cited a rise from about 5.9 percent to a projected 6.3 percent and then 6.7 percent in subsequent years) and supplemental dollars for unduplicated pupils increased by about $1,000,000 this year. Staff cautioned that some state funds are one-time and recommended reserving capacity to sustain services if temporary dollars end. The board is scheduled to review the LCAP draft and the budget overview for parents at the June 23 meeting and to submit the finalized LCAP to the Marin County Office of Education by July 1.
