The Shelter Island Union Free School District Board of Education approved the appointment of Avery Zumpol as a 1.0 FTE 7–12 Science Teacher effective September 1, 2025. The board's resolution sets an annual salary of $61,758 (Step 1, BA) and specifies a four-year probationary term through September 1, 2029; the resolution also conditions tenure consideration on receiving three annual APPR composite ratings of "Effective" or "Highly Effective" in at least three of four preceding years and bars tenure if an "Ineffective" rating occurs in the last probationary year.
The board additionally approved paid transition days for Zumpol from June 24 through June 27, 2025, at $125 per day. Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health, Wellness & Personnel Todd Gulluscio introduced Zumpol and said the interview committee was "blown away" by her interview and demonstration lesson. Zumpol thanked the board, saying she is "very excited to work with the students and community."
