The Shelter Island Union Free School District Board of Education unanimously adopted a revised 2025–2026 budget totaling $13,298,131 at its June 2 meeting, a motion moved by Board member Margaret Colligan and seconded by Board member Anthony J. Rando. The board also approved the district's 2025–2026 Property Tax Report Card for public presentation and voter consideration.
Superintendent Dr. Brian Doelger presented the revised proposal and explained how it differs from the May 20 budget, then reviewed procedural dates: a budget hearing is scheduled for June 9, 2025, and the school budget vote will be held June 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the School Conference Room; absentee ballots are available through District Clerk Jacqueline Dunning. When asked whether the revised budget stays under the statutory tax cap, Dr. Doelger replied that it does.
Board President Kathleen M. Lynch called the motion to adopt and the minutes record that the motion "carried unanimously." All five members listed as present — Kathleen M. Lynch, Margaret Colligan, Dawn Hedberg, Karina Montalvo and Anthony J. Rando — voted in favor. The adopted documents will be presented to the public at the June 9 hearing and placed on the ballot for the June 17 vote.
The board did not amend the spending total at the meeting. The next formal opportunity for public comment and deliberation is the June 9 budget hearing; the vote by district residents is scheduled for June 17.
