The Bexar County Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of a rezone and special-use permit for a proposed cell tower on Tanners Bridal Road after staff said the application complies with UDC §89-182. Staff identified the proposal as a future land use map amendment to Rural Reserve and a rezoning of roughly 25.2 acres to permit a monopole tower.
Patton Hahn, an attorney representing City Switch and Ignite Wireless, told the commission the proposal “intended to improve AT and T's coverage in this area,” and said the design allows space for up to four additional carriers. Neighbor Debbie Gibson, who lives across the street, urged denial or conditions, saying the parcel is surrounded by residential lots and expressing concerns about property maintenance and property values. The applicant responded that property-code enforcement and the zoning decision are separate matters and reiterated that there are multi-mile coverage gaps that the tower would address.
Commissioners moved to approve staff recommendations—including the future land use amendment, rezoning and special-use permit—and the motion carried. The commission forwarded its recommendation to the Bexar County Commission, which will make the final decision at its March 11 meeting in this room at 6 p.m.
