Board adopts pre-disaster mitigation plan to preserve grant eligibility

Trustees unanimously adopted a five-year update to the district’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan, which staff said is required to qualify for certain FEMA and other grant programs and carries community safety benefits.
Roger Brooks, the district Safety Manager, told trustees the pre-disaster mitigation plan must be updated every five years and is "mandatory to qualify for certain grant applications." The board voted to approve the update unanimously.
Brooks outlined additional benefits including increased safety, financial savings and strengthened trust with community stakeholders. The plan is the first update since 2019 and was presented as necessary to retain eligibility for post-earthquake and other disaster-related funding.
