The Public Works Committee voted to recommend the 2027 capital budget package to the city council after a multi-hour review of dozens of projects and equipment requests. Staff framed the exercise as setting 2027 priorities within a five-year snapshot the mayor and council expect; members emphasized showing prior design or construction investments so council can prioritize ongoing multi-year projects. "It's where you guys get to spend millions of dollars," a staff presenter said while introducing the budget list.
Major capital requests included construction funding for the Lagoon Denore Bridge (local ask to cover non-participating items despite WisDOT participation), Wallace Avenue construction for watermain replacement, Nichols Road reconstruction work (STBG/MPO-funded segments and local design requests), multiple local street reconstructions, traffic-calming preliminary engineering, a proposed ADA transition plan for public-works infrastructure, and requests to repair three large stormwater basins. The package also included sanitary-sewer force-main replacement and lift-station modernization, equipment replacements (loader, chippers, trucks, pavement-marking machine) and terrace-tree plantings; the committee asked staff to include prior dollars spent in future one-pagers to aid council decision-making.
