Council asks police to study stop-sign options at Reagan Street and Avenue I after residents report speeding

Council member Escobedo asked the council to consider installing additional stop signs at the intersection of South Reagan Street and Avenue I (referred to as Cemetery Road) after residents reported vehicles speeding and near-misses. Escobedo described motorists running the turns and said pedestrians crossing at night face danger.

Chief of Police Kirk Hoffman told council "We can increase our enforcement. We can put a speed trailer," and said the department can conduct targeted patrols and radar studies to document speeds, but warned that adding a single stop sign near other nearby stops may be ineffective and that a multiway stop (three- or four-way) may be necessary for meaningful speed control. Council directed staff to study the feasibility, possible costs and enforcement options.
