Resident urges safety upgrades on North Winthrop Road, calls for sidewalks and bike lanes

Brown told the committee he has seen "near misses, speeding vehicles, limited visibility around the curve" and asked that consideration include continuous sidewalks, dedicated bicycle lanes and traffic calming measures. "I respectfully ask the committee to begin evaluating improvements along North Winthropo Road corridor," he said.
Committee members asked Brown to clarify the difference between the officially mapped Lake Monona bike loop and the route most cyclists now use; Brown said the majority of riders "hug Monona Drive," meaning the corridor already carries regional active-transportation demand. The committee acknowledged the request is not an agenda item tonight and noted there is no current sidewalk plan for that segment; staff and members recommended a follow-up conversation with project lead Brad to provide historical context and to consider next steps for a planning evaluation.
