Council hears extensive update on housing and commercial projects across Villa Rica

Griffin enumerated projects with active units (Watermist 2 — 56 active units; Emery townhomes — 114 active units; Rivershire — 124; Jameson — 45; Northwoods phases; Charleston Place 3 — 51 active units) and said some multifamily buildings are "going vertical" under issued permits.
Griffin said staff received bond renewals for Connor's Landing, are working on bonds and final platting for Liberty Point Phase 5, and have issued land disturbance permits for several commercial projects. He told the council a developer submitted a $15,000 contribution tied to conditions for a buffer/encroachment variance related to a bridge rebuild and that final permitting is nearly ready now that that payment arrived.
Councilmembers asked for more tracking detail. "Is it possible to add... when these particular projects went through zoning on, like, another column on here?" one councilmember asked; Griffin agreed to add rezoning dates to the update and to include relevant LDP/permitting status so the council can track whether conditions tied to earlier approvals remain attached to newer plans.
The update also covered several commercial sites (Whataburger, flex storage, multiple liquor stores) and school-related construction: Griffin said Carroll County School District projects are underway, including an addition at Glanton Hindsman and a covered football field at Villa Rica High School. Councilmembers emphasized the usefulness of the report because many projects have long histories and staff agreed to provide more chronological rezoning and permit context in the next update.
