Clint Chance, representing the Villa Rica Frontiers Rodeo, told the council the annual rodeo will return on Aug. 21–22 and outlined safety, permitting and fundraising practices tied to the event. “Our 21st annual event is coming up August 21st and 22nd,” Chance said, and he added the rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Cowboys Association and draws thousands from across West Georgia.
Chance said the event prohibits alcohol on the property, hires off-duty Villa Rica Police officers for traffic and crowd control, retains an ambulance on site and requires vendor permits and Georgia Department of Agriculture authorization for any public livestock showing. He also told the council the organizers list the city as an additional insured on their multimillion-dollar policy.
For operations and fundraising, Chance said parking donations have supported local school booster programs: “100% of the parking donations for the last 2 years have gone to the Villa Rica band boosters,” he said, and that volunteers and school groups have historically run fundraisers tied to the rodeo.
The organizers asked the council to allow event signage on private property: up to twelve 4-by-4-foot signs and up to fifty 18-by-24-inch signs to be placed Aug. 11 and removed no later than Aug. 25. Chance said the group keeps a numbered log of property owners’ permissions and removes signage promptly after the event. The council did not take final action at the presentation; the item was positioned for the consent agenda.
