Granton board outlines budget shortfall, schedules Finance 101 as referendum and grade‑sharing discussed

The Granton Area School District presented the board with an emerging budget shortfall and a slate of options to address it, including a potential referendum and exploring whole‑grade sharing with another district. District Administrator Nancy Popp and board members briefed attendees and said district financial consultants (Baird) will be involved; a Finance 101 special meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18, 2025.

A member of the public told the board the district had "lost some kids this year" and expressed opposition to a referendum, underscoring community concern about both enrollment trends and local tax impact.

The board did not take formal budget action at the meeting; it directed staff to continue financial modeling and to work with Baird to present clearer options at upcoming meetings. The Finance 101 meeting on Nov. 18 will provide staff and community members a consultant‑led briefing on revenue, expenditure drivers and possible timelines for any referendum or consolidation process.
