Counselors: test-optional applications rose; early-decision remains a key yield tool

Megan Miles told the meeting she is now able to track test-optional application usage and said at least 871 student applications were submitted without test scores in 2023 and at least 1,011 in 2024. She said a large share of those applicants received admission decisions without scores and that counselors advise families on when submitting scores may help with scholarships or specific programs.
Miles also described early-decision usage by Lake Forest students: in 2022 there were 81 ED1 applicants and 18 ED2 applicants; in 2023 there were 115 ED1 and 20 ED2; and in 2024 there were 104 ED1 and 26 ED2 applicants with 53 of those students accepted into their ED school in 2024. "In 2024, we had 104 students apply ED 1, 26 students apply ED 2, and 53 of those students were accepted, into their early decision school," she said.
