District forms special-education work group to refine continuum of services

The Lake Forest SD 67 Department of Student Services reported the creation of a work group to study students with IEPs and refine the district's continuum of services. Joanne Ford Halverson said the group includes 11 educators who met for the first time recently and will meet four times between winter and spring to define service tiers, identify gaps and recommend refinements.
Halverson told the board the work will proceed iteratively and return to the education committee with more detailed proposals at the May 20 update; she emphasized that any changes must respect IEP timelines and individualized decisions for students. “We have 11 educators…we kicked off our work,” she said, and staff plan to refine the roadmap before broader implementation targeted for the 2026–27 school year.
