Recreation & Parks Director John Zannino told the Board the department currently manages 68 diamond fields, 38 multipurpose grass fields and 14 synthetic fields with 50 employees, and that the County will assume management of 42 middle‑school athletic fields across 12 middle schools. "They will add eight new full-time positions and will begin replacing the synthetic turf replacements on all the high school football fields," the transcript records.
Zannino also reviewed large special events planned for 2026 — including the county’s 250th anniversary celebration, Juneteenth and July 4th events — and said the department is reopening Three Lakes Nature Center and making security enhancements at park facilities. The staffing increases and field‑care responsibilities will be considered in the department’s budget request.
