Douglas W. Clevert Jr. sworn in as Henrico County fire chief, vows community-focused leadership

Douglas W. Clevert Jr. was formally sworn in as the 12th chief of the Henrico County Division of Fire on June 23 in a ceremony before the Board of Supervisors.
County Manager John A. Vithoulkas introduced Chief Clevert, who began service June 13 after a career including roles as Assistant Fire Chief for Training and Professional Development (arriving in Henrico in 2020), Deputy Chief of Community Risk Reduction (2023), and Deputy Chief of Operations (2025). Chief Judge Rondelle D. Herman administered the oath. Chief Clevert told attendees the oath and said the role is "not about a badge, a rank, a position, but it is about responsibility, trust, and the sacred commitment we make to serve our people," adding that leadership "demands more of us: more humility, more courage, more accountability, and more heart."
Chief Clevert thanked his family and noted his deep ties to Henrico County, including graduating from Godwin High School and earlier education in county schools. The Board recessed briefly after the ceremony.
