Seward board approves highway hires and $336,083 plow-truck purchase; moves forward on park Phase 1

Supervisor Mark Fletcher called the Town of Seward Board to order at 6:30 p.m. on March 9, 2026, and the board approved routine minutes and reports before addressing highway staffing and equipment needs. Councilman William Harlow moved to hire a part-time highway employee for the remainder of the snow season at $24.00 per hour; Supervisor Fletcher seconded and the motion passed on a 5-0 voice vote.
The board then authorized purchase of a 2025 Western Star 49X with Tenco Plow package for $336,083 after a motion from Councilman Harlow, seconded by Councilman James Seresky; that motion also passed on a 5-0 voice vote. Highway Superintendent Chad Evans had presented the department's written and oral reports, which the board accepted. The board discussed the town pay scale set in 2022 and staffing planning for winter operations.
In the same meeting Councilman Harlow moved, seconded by Councilwoman Wendy Adams Rosa, to move forward with Phase 1 of the town park plan; the motion carried on a 5-0 voice vote. The board also accepted written reports from the Town Clerk, Assessor, Dog Control Officer, and Code Enforcement Officer.
