Council sets publication and hearing timeline, discusses plaza donations and pool staffing

City Manager Henry summarized the timeline that governs publication and public hearings: he must publish the initial budget and CIP reading on Aug. 20, publish the proposed-adoption and first tax-rate reading on Sept. 3, hold a special meeting/public hearing for adoption and CIP on Sept. 8, and complete required publications and hearings before final adoption by Sept. 15.
"On August 20, I have to have a newspaper publication for the for the 1st budget, and, CIP reading," Henry said. He told council that even after the proposed budget is published, council may revisit and change items prior to adoption and that staff will aim to have a draft ready for an August 18 workshop.
Council members also discussed community projects during the open portion of the workshop: a plan to solicit sponsors for plaza picnic tables rather than using city funds, a need for lifeguard training to keep the pool open, and discretionary-fund timing (discretionary funds reset Oct. 1). Several councilors volunteered in principle to donate materials or services for near-term projects.
