Healthy Kids Survey: district sees gains in connectedness, flags harassment as ongoing concern

"Overall, our percentage for the district was 78.3," the presenter said, and described increases in caring adult relationships, school connectedness and perceived high‑school safety (reported to have improved from 62% to 71%). The presenter attributed gains to expanded wellness hubs, elementary counseling, freshman academic supports and specialized programs that increase student engagement.
At the same time, staff flagged harassment metrics as "still too high" despite year‑to‑year improvement; presenters said they will continue upstander training and consistent discipline protocols while seeking higher survey participation. The presenter also reported declines in vaping and low on‑campus substance use (middle school 95% reporting zero days), and noted that a county grant will require next year's administration of the survey rather than the usual biennial cadence.
