Diabetes-prevention programs expand as employers prepare benefits fair Sept. 16

Lisa Burbage discussed expansion of the CDC Diabetes Prevention Program and said many insurance plans and Medicare now cover lifestyle-coach led programs that can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. She noted that about 90 percent of people with prediabetes are unaware of their condition and stressed connections between diabetes and increased dementia risk.
Joyce Antonetti, wellness director at Trident Technical College, said she is organizing a benefits fair on Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school's main campus (7000 Rivers Ave) and is recruiting vendors to present to 750+ faculty and staff at no cost. Antonetti asked committee members to refer organizations and to contact her with vendor nominations so the college can assemble a robust resource fair.
