Lamar Hodges, speaking for the public-health outreach team, said the county is partnering with MUSC's Hollings Cancer Center to offer mobile mammograms and cervical screenings at area health departments and community events. He said the mobile unit began visits in July and will return to Dorchester County Health Department on Aug. 21 for appointments.
Hodges highlighted a recent clinic with a "100 percent show rate," saying that high attendance confirmed demand for the service. "We normally have with their mobile unit is coming out to our local health departments and being able to provide services," Hodges said, adding that the partnership aims to reduce transportation barriers by bringing the service to familiar community locations.
Doctor Durst and other committee members noted Roper and MUSC outreach efforts and asked Hodges to circulate flyers and scheduling information so clinics can reach eligible women ahead of breast-cancer awareness outreach later in the year.
