An NTA bargaining team representative told the Natomas Unified School District Board of Trustees on Monday that educators are frustrated with the district's bargaining posture and are prepared to escalate if talks do not produce acceptable staffing and benefits outcomes.
"We are fed up and we are strike ready," the union representative said during public communications, adding the team "showed up ready to listen" but left puzzled by the district’s bargaining approach. The speaker said the NTA will proceed to fact finding and urged the board to address affordable benefits and staffing commitments.
Board members later ratified a memorandum of understanding with the teachers' union concerning modifications to the transfer and reassignment timeline for the 2026-27 school year. Trustee Moore moved approval and Trustee Hardin seconded; the motion carried 5-0.
The representative said there are approximately 640 active NTA members in the bargaining unit and framed the fact-finding step as the next phase in bargaining. The board did not take any additional public-action steps beyond ratifying the MOU during the meeting.
The board's vote to ratify the MOU was recorded by the clerk; trustees voting in favor were recorded in a roll call. The agreement as presented at the meeting textually concerned timelines for transfers and reassignments in the coming school year and was described by board staff as an administrative modification linked to bargaining discussions.
