Romaine, a Special Facilities staff member, told the committee the maritime center has seen renewed event interest, including a rehearsal dinner held on the docks for Owen Brown and outreach about outdoor exercise classes that would need to avoid amplified sound. "We thought we were out of the rental events for the facility, but we've been approached by a couple of people for doing different things," Romaine said.
Romaine said staff amended rental contracts with help from the legal department to permit a wider set of uses while setting limits (for example, no amplification because of transient visitors). He told the committee that most commercial vessel licensing agreements were approved by City Council last month, but negotiations for the Spirit of South Carolina continue; that vessel's current licensing agreement runs through 01/01/2027. Romaine also said staff are meeting with prospective instructors about twice-weekly 6 a.m. exercise classes at the maritime center and will review operational details on site next week.
