Counselors outline graduate destinations, direct-admit pilot and test-optional trends for Class of 2024–26

Dr. Patrick Sassen and counselor Megan Miles presented the district's postsecondary data and counseling work. Sassen said the Class of 2024 reported attendance at 124 colleges (down from 134 the prior year) and noted shifting state distributions for destinations. "Every year we put together kind of a portrait of our graduates, where they've gone," he said while reviewing the distribution by state.
Megan Miles detailed new admissions developments: eight Illinois public universities are participating in a direct-admit program that will begin January 2025 and flag students who meet GPA cutoffs in Common App without requiring essays or teacher recommendations. "When they do complete the application, they will not have to do the essay or do teacher recommendations," Miles said. Counselors also reviewed increasing numbers of applications submitted without test scores and early-decision trends, and said counselors help families decide when submitting test scores will aid admissions or scholarship prospects.
