DOT requires new bridge for Bright Creek trail; county expects change orders for drainage fixes

County staff told the Board of Supervisors that the Department of Transportation required a separate bridge near the mill instead of routing the trail over the existing structure, creating a 15–20-foot offset and complicating construction in limited right-of-way.

"The DOT was requiring us to have a bridge right there by the mill," Nathan Jones said, adding that the department has seen standing water for about a week after recent rains and that several cross drains are higher than expected. Staff said those conditions could leave asphalt bumpy unless the contractor and engineers adjust elevations.

Jones and engineering staff (Jayden) said they expected some change orders to correct grades and add stabilizing material where sand and silt are washing down from the hillside. The county plans to obtain pricing for stabilizing stone and to include adjustments in any contractor pay requests if required to meet DOT and constructability standards.

Board members asked about right-of-way constraints and the possibility of extension requests; staff said the project is largely on schedule but noted there may be limited room to move the trail alignment because of property and setback limits.
