Conservation director: Bright Creek disc-golf pads in, fundraising short of goal
Summary
Jackson County conservation director Nathan Jones said concrete pads and baskets for the Bright Creek disc-golf course are installed and the site is already drawing players; staff reported about $130,000 raised of a $200,000 target and warned of possible change orders to address drainage and grading before final paving.

Nathan Jones, Jackson County conservation director, told the Board of Supervisors on Aug. 26 that the Bright Creek portion of the Destination Iowa project is progressing but still needs finishing work and funding.
"The pads have all been installed, baskets for disco[n]... It's already getting used quite a bit. I can't believe how many people are actually playing," Jones said, noting staff had already found "like, 14 disc[s]" while walking the course. Jones said seating will be installed in the next few weeks and that staff expect to rent a pulverizer to smooth areas that require additional grading.
Jones told supervisors the project is not fully funded: "we raised, I think, around a 130,000 of the 200 for that," and several grant decisions were still pending. He said asphalt paving is likely a few months out and that staff are seeking a change-order price for stabilizing stone to raise the trail where needed before paving.
The conservation office plans a public ribbon cutting for the course in one of the last two weekends of October and hopes to tie the event to the county's water-quality work. Jones also warned of an ongoing coordination issue with the state Department of Natural Resources over floodplain treatments at some water crossings.
The report drew no board vote; it was presented as a departmental update and staff said they will return with specific change orders and contract details if needed.
