Kermit ISD's Board of Trustees on Feb. 11, 2026 authorized Superintendent Oscar Muñiz to negotiate and execute a lease with the Michel Family Trust for 11 apartment units at Parkview Apartments, 200 S. East Ave., to be used as teacher and essential personnel housing. The board approved provisions permitting the district to sublease units to staff and to recover rent through mandatory payroll deductions.
The board also approved an amendment to permit a temporary five-month sublease of one unit to Gallagher Construction Company, L.P., starting Feb. 11, 2026 and expiring June 30, 2026, to provide on-site oversight of district construction projects. The action included adoption of Resolutions 26-0002 and 26-0003 authorizing the lease and the temporary sublease. The meeting minutes record the rental rates for subleases as $850 per month for unrenovated units and $950 per month for renovated units; the district will initially serve as the primary lessee and charge employees via payroll deduction.
Board President Lee Lentz-Edwards presided over the open-session approval following an executive-session discussion about the lease and related real-property matters. The board's votes on the lease authorizations and resolutions were recorded as approvals in open session; the meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
