The board ratified a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the California School Employees Association regarding a school safety officer job description after receiving public comment emphasizing campus safety concerns.
Public commenters urged the board to ensure the job description meets on-campus needs; one speaker asked board members to "make sure that you're taking care of them because they are taking care of us, and we need it more than is being provided right now." Trustees moved and seconded the ratification and, after a roll-call vote, the MOU was recorded as approved unanimously.
The district noted the MOU is one piece in a broader campus safety strategy and signaled more work to come. The motion to ratify was made by Trustee Mora and seconded by Trustee Harden; Helene called the roll and the motion carried 6-0 as entered into the record.
