The Natomas Unified board approved several action items to prequalify and continue vendors for the LEAP Academy after-school and summer enrichment programs.
Carolyn Jackson (Natomas Black Families United) and Isaac Bishop (Roberts Family Development) spoke in support of continuing Freedom Schools and Roberts Family Development Center as providers, and urged the district to expand literacy-focused summer options. Carolyn Jackson asked the board to continue funding and expand the program through 2028. Public commenter Thurman requested that the district post provider websites and options earlier in the year so parents can plan summer care.
Board members moved, seconded and approved item 14a (core providers for LEAP Academy) and 14b (prequalified enrichment vendors) as well as 14c (prequalified summer vendors for the 2026–27 LEAP Academy) in unanimous roll-call votes (motions carried 4–0). The board noted there was no fiscal action beyond the existing approvals and welcomed community partners for program expansion.
