Natomas Unified trustees elect leadership for 2026; president nominated for second term

The board of the Natomas Unified School District elected board officers for the 2026 school year at its December meeting, nominating the incumbent board president to a second term and choosing a vice president and clerk.

Board members discussed a board bylaw that requires a school board president to have taken a designated board presidents workshop before serving. Trustee Dasek nominated a sitting president for a second term "with thanks to Micah for having done this already for a year," and the nomination was seconded. After a roll call the motion was carried and the president accepted the trust of the board. Trustee Dossick and Trustee Mehta served as mover and seconder on different officer motions during the meeting.

Trustees also nominated and elected a vice president and a clerk. The vice president nomination for Trustee Moore was seconded and carried after a roll call that recorded two abstentions; the clerk position was filled by Trustee Mehta in a unanimous roll call. During discussion trustees raised governance and equity considerations, with one trustee urging attention to gender balance when forming the executive team. "I think that our governance team would benefit from having some female representation," a trustee said during deliberations.

The board handled the officer elections by formal motions and roll-call votes consistent with its bylaws; no additional public action or amendment to the district's governance bylaws was made at the meeting. The board adjourned its business after completing the officer elections and other agenda items.
