Cecilia Nguyen introduced for Asian Affairs Commission seat; confirmation set for Aug. 28

Cecilia Nguyen told the Urban and Economic Development Committee she was born and raised in Tulsa, attended Union High School, Tulsa Community College and the University of Tulsa and has led the Vietnamese Student Association and served with APITA Tulsa.
"My name is Cecilia Nguyen, and I am currently a Tulsa service here fellow at Leadership Tulsa," she said, describing research she conducted on the local Vietnamese American community and how she hopes to elevate it through service on the commission. Committee members praised her energy and local roots; Councilor Garlos said the committee will vote on her appointment at its 5 p.m. meeting on Aug. 28.
The nomination replaces Renita Wade on the commission and the appointment packet lists the term as expiring Jan. 1, 2027. Councilors told Nguyen they look forward to her first report from the commission if she is confirmed.
