MP Bus proposes NJ Transit Access Link hub at 601 Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights

MP Bus Corporation presented an informal conceptual review on Oct. 2 for an NJ Transit Access Link hub at 601 Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights. Matthew Gilson, Esq., appearing on behalf of the applicant, told the board the appearance was to outline a future complete site-plan application and public-notice process.
Tom Rybak described the existing Hartz building on the site and said it has "approximately 240 parking spaces". He said the proposed operation would dispatch Access Link vans to serve elderly and handicapped riders in surrounding communities; vans would carry about eight to ten passengers each. Rybak told the board the plan calls for about "75 vans and 25 sedans" to be parked inside the building and for training rooms, a dispatch area, operations staff space and a drivers' lunchroom to be located in the facility.
Applicant representatives said the building would be fully sprinklered and ventilated to accommodate roughly 200 vehicles, allow only minor maintenance and vehicle washing on site, and employ about 35 administrative staff. The applicant estimated the building footprint at approximately 100,000 square feet, with about 15,000 square feet of office space and 85,000 square feet dedicated to vehicle parking. The applicant confirmed NJ Transit would maintain an office in the facility and be involved in operations.
Board members were told a traffic report addressing ingress, egress and maneuverability will be provided when the applicant files the complete site-plan application and gives required public notice. No formal vote or approval was taken at the Oct. 2 conceptual review; the board adjourned the meeting after hearing the presentation.
