Staff Recommends Closing Campus Segment of East 8th Street at University of Tulsa

Public Works staff presented a request from the University of Tulsa to close a portion of East 8th Street that runs through campus and recommended approval.
Paul Zachary said, "8th Street runs through right through the heart of the campus, TU," and that the roadway primarily serves campus use and has high pedestrian volumes; staff told the committee they routed the request through operating departments, "including the public safety, and there were no no objections whatsoever." Staff said utilities would remain in place with easements and a judicial quiet-title process (a "friendly lawsuit") will be used to effect a permanent closure.
Committee members asked about emergency access and the availability of alternate routes; staff said public safety access is available via other streets and that utility easements will be reserved as part of the process. A public hearing on the item was noted as required by procedure.
