Member Rachel Bergstrom argued for a stipend rather than a permanent double-step increase, saying it would be "a small way to recognize" staff who earn the distinguished rating and be easier to budget year to year. The minutes record the committee's intent to reward staff who serve as leaders in their buildings and who "go above and beyond to move the district in a positive direction." The joint committee voted 4-0 to recommend full board support for the stipend and the district project line item.
The recommendation replaces discussion of the existing double-step component of the compensation model; the minutes note staff members were in favor of removing the double step. The administration will control which building-level projects are funded from the $1,500 district allocation and how much funding individual staff members receive. The committee transmitted the recommendation to the full board for action at the next meeting.
