Recreation committee plans fundraiser; town discusses splash pad and spring events

Arlette Zambito, chair of the Recreation Committee, told the board the committee will host its Spring Fling fundraiser at Brix Gastropub on April 30; "The funds will be used to plant flowers in front of all the businesses/storefronts in the Hamlet of Marlboro," she said. The board also received reports that the Arbor Day event at Sands Avenue Park went well and that the lighting ceremony at Young’s Field was supported by a $100,000 grant secured with assistance from Legislator Tom Corcoran.
Councilwoman Sessa said she met with the Wilcox Park director about their splash pad and cautioned the town that a similar project would be large and expensive, with a preliminary cost estimate of about $400,000. The board discussed potential grant sources briefly but took no formal action on capital funding at the workshop. Supervisor Corcoran also noted community events coming up on May 4, including a pancake breakfast at the Marlboro Firehouse and the Blossom Street Fair in Milton.
The Recreation Committee asked the board to include donor acknowledgements and move forward with planting plans after the fundraiser.
