Herndon Elementary spotlighted as student named National Math Star; $100,000 in support pledged

Herndon Principal Jamila Thomas presented a campus spotlight and the board honored Herndon 4th grader Grayson Venhaus as a National Math Star, a program that will provide him more than $100,000 in support through high school; trustees praised the student's achievement and campus programs.
Herndon Elementary was the campus spotlight at the Sept. 8 Royse City ISD board meeting. Principal Jamila Thomas and Assistant Principal Kelly Merriott presented a spotlight video outlining campus programs; the board later commended the campus leadership and staff for their work.
The board also recognized Herndon 4th grader Grayson Venhaus as a National Math Star. The district noted that Venhaus was chosen from thousands of nominees and is one of 57 students selected from Texas; the program will provide him "more than $100,000 in support through high school" including mentoring, advanced learning, STEM enrichment, competitions and summer camps. Trustee Eric Fort said, "That is truly momentous for that to happen, so congratulations to him and his family, and the fact that he will have continued support for the next 10 years."
