Board approves MoDOT engineering assistance to study safety at 162nd/Nation Road intersection

Public Works Director Shelley Daniel presented an ordinance authorizing the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission Transportation Engineering Assistance Program (TEAP) agreement to perform a traffic safety and operations analysis at the east intersection of 162nd and Nation Road. Daniel said the item followed multiple customer concerns and would evaluate crash risks, roadway attributes and short‑ and long‑term countermeasures.
"The study will help us identify key attributes of the roadway, evaluate crash risks based on existing conditions, and make short and long term recommendations based on proven safety countermeasures to enhance the safety of the location," Daniel said. She added that Clay County will partner by paying 50% of the local match and that the study is expected to be complete by the end of May.
After two readings by title, the board approved the ordinance unanimously. The study's findings will inform any future capital or operational changes at the intersection and can be used for grant applications or safety projects.
