"Chief Thomas thought that it would be safer if we didn't have cars there so kids might not be darting out in between," a staff speaker told the board.
One board member raised concerns that four businesses on the route had not responded to outreach and had previously expressed worry about lost business during street closures. The board discussed whether additional outreach should be required before granting the permit but ultimately moved to approve the request with the standard conditions; the motion passed unanimously.
The closure is scheduled from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Dec. 14, 2024; staff will coordinate notification and signage and ensure police presence for crowd and traffic control.
