Parks department hires local recreation manager, Emily Heckendorf

The City of Merrill's Parks and Recreation staff selected Emily Heckendorf as the new recreation manager after a recruitment that drew 24 applicants and four interviewees. Dan (speaker S3), who briefed the commission, said Emily previously worked seven seasons as a summer playground leader, served as an arena specialist and has six years at MAPS as a special education teacher and Special Olympics coach.
"We had 24 people that applied, for the position," Dan said, and the panel ultimately chose a local candidate. Dan told commissioners Emily began shadowing staff last week and "starting Monday, she was flying solo on her own, and she's been doing fantastic so far." Dan said he hopes to bring her to the September meeting so the commission can meet her in person.
