Residents call Kincaid laptop forensics a "witch hunt," question expense

Several residents sharply criticized the board's decision to seek forensic analysis of returned laptops, calling the move an unnecessary expense and questioning officials' motives. Gary Warren told the board the matter "sounds like this is a witch hunt for the two people that left this board and office and is being dragged out," and asked why the village would spend additional funds after possessing the machines for six months.
Christian Vacker said the special meeting and the $2,400 estimate were a waste of taxpayer money and said the decision could have waited for a regular meeting. "This is an entire waste of money," he said, noting the direct cost and the additional expense of holding a special meeting. Residents also raised concerns that the laptops had previously been accessed by multiple people and that engineering files were already supplied on flash drives for sewer work, a point made during discussion.
