John Keyes, Program Manager for the Office of Right of Way, asked the Commission to approve abandonment by resolution of three parcels that the Department’s regional staff say are no longer needed for highway purposes. The first was Lot A in Lot H2 (SE1/4 Section 17) near Elkton in Brookings County (0.69 acre); the second set were small parcels along US Hwy 18 near Turkey Ridge and at the US 18/Hwy 19 intersection in Turner County (0.01 acre and 1.91 acres). Commissioners moved, seconded, and approved the abandonments; RESOLUTION #2026–7.2 (Brookings County) and RESOLUTION #2026–7.3 (Turner County) were adopted.
Keyes said Department regional and area staff recommended the abandonments; the minutes record the Commission’s approval but do not list purchaser details or subsequent disposition steps. The approvals direct the Department to proceed with the formal abandonment process under its right‑of‑way procedures.
