The South Dakota Transportation Commission voted on July 23 to set an administrative hearing for Aug. 27, 2026, to consider proposed amendments to Administrative Rule of South Dakota (ARSD) 70:01:02:62, the Union County speed‑zone rule. Karla Engle of the Office of Legal Counsel asked the Commission to schedule the hearing and Commissioners Jaf Karim and Rick Vallery moved and seconded the request. The motion carried on a roll‑call vote with all present voting aye.
The hearing was scheduled as RESOLUTION #2026–7.1; Engle confirmed the required public notice process and that materials would be filed in accordance with SDCL chapters governing administrative hearings. No public comment was offered at the July 23 meeting. The hearing date gives interested parties a formal opportunity to present testimony and evidence before the Commission considers rule amendments.
