“I have a financial agreement for the CCMG 20 27 call that starts in September 1 this year. We'll apply for the full million,” the highway representative (speaker 4) said during the meeting, describing state rule changes and the county’s plan to submit an application. Chair (speaker 1) called for a motion on Resolution No. 5; the board approved the resolution and directed staff to sign and file the documents.
The board also received a detailed update on chip-seal operations and staff training. The highway representative said Jefferson County has received a distributor and hosted training; Scott County plans to send crews to train on the new distributor and use the remainder of the current season for paving and training so crews are prepared for the 2027 work plan. “Now that we know it's here, we'll just utilize the rest of the year for training,” the highway representative said.
Commissioners noted timing constraints tied to weather—work must be completed before colder temperatures and overnight freezes affect oil break-in—and directed staff to coordinate the training and sign the grant paperwork.
