The St. Croix County Public Protection and Judiciary Committee heard presentations on two personnel requests that will be considered as part of the 2027 budget process. County staff framed the session as a preview, asking the subcommittee for feedback and emphasizing that not all requested positions can be funded without offsets.
The medical examiner asked for a 0.5 full-time-equivalent program coordinator to handle rising caseloads, records requests and hospice registrations; the district attorney asked for a full-time legal assistant to relieve attorneys and an office manager of nonlegal tasks. "So the 2 positions though that have been requested that specifically report through public protection and judiciary committee," staff said as they introduced the requests. Committee members generally endorsed both requests as reasonable given county growth but urged department heads to identify offsets and reorganizations to reduce net cost before formal budget decisions.
