The City Council on April 22 presented a proclamation honoring Fire Marshal John Johnson for 25 years of service with the Menlo Park Fire Protection District and for work to reduce fire incidences and improve community preparedness.
Mayor read the proclamation highlighting Johnson’s career milestones, including work on window‑safety programs, public education and mitigation, and adopting tools such as UAS drones for wildfire response. The proclamation credited Johnson with partnering with East Palo Alto Police Department on a large fireworks seizure and with efforts that "reduced fireworks related incidences" in the region.
Council members and city staff spoke warmly about Johnson’s community focus. "You've always taken your job seriously and professionally, but done so with empathy," one council member said during the tribute. Johnson reflected on his tenure: "This has been my 2nd home," he said, thanking colleagues and residents for their support.
The council took a photo and gave the marshal a round of applause; no formal action beyond the ceremonial recognition was taken.
