City recognizes student volunteers in President's Service Awards presentation

Evelyn Romero of Youth Community Service (YCS) introduced student recipients of the President's Volunteer Service Award and described local participation in the nonprofit's service-learning programs. "Again, my name is Evelyn Romero. I'm a community engagement associate at YCS," she said while presenting a slideshow of student reflections. Romero told the council YCS works with more than 65 Bay Area schools and local community organizations to certify volunteer hours.
The mayor and council presented proclamations to the students and thanked YCS for its partnership. Council members praised the volunteers'commitment to school and community; one member noted the awards help young people demonstrate service experience to future employers and colleges. The ceremony included photo opportunities with the recipients and brief remarks from council members congratulating the honorees.
