Southwest ISD recognizes Students of the Month and district Teachers of the Year

At its March 18 meeting Southwest ISD honored Students of the Month across elementary, middle and high schools and announced campus and district Teachers of the Year, including Elementary District Teacher of the Year Jessica Welch and Secondary District Teacher of the Year Carlos Perez.
The board opened recognitions at the March 18 meeting by honoring Students of the Month from multiple campuses: Fernando Alcala (Sky Harbour Elementary), Zoe Serrano (McNair Middle School), and Adriana Orduno (Southwest Legacy High School). Chief Communications Officer Jenny Collier announced the district's 2023–2024 Campus Teachers of the Year and named district finalists and winners, including Jessica Welch as Elementary District Teacher of the Year and Carlos Perez as Secondary District Teacher of the Year.
The recognitions also highlighted athletic achievement: Aiden Diaz of Southwest High School finished fourth overall in diving at the UIL 5A swimming and diving state championship. The board did not take action on recognitions; the segment provided public acknowledgment of student and staff achievements across the district.
