The Architectural Review Commission voted April 15 to grant a Certificate of Appropriateness for façade improvements and exterior downlighting at 400–408 Green Bay Road, proposed by Farnsworth-Hill, LLC and represented at the hearing by Jim Nash. Commissioners said the changes would help beautify the building but attached conditions to limit impacts on nearby residences.
Planner Andrew Dunham reviewed the application; applicant Jim Nash described the history and purpose of the work. Commissioners raised three specific conditions during discussion: (1) fixtures must be hooded or shielded to limit light spillover into adjacent residential areas, (2) the color temperature should be warmer and matched to nearby Village streetlights, and (3) conduit should be concealed so it is not visible on the façade. Commissioner Paul moved to approve, Commissioner Joyce seconded; the roll-call vote recorded Armstrong, Joyce, Paul, Pilant in favor and three absences. Resident Rick Gordon asked whether the lights would be on overnight; Nash confirmed they would. Commissioner Armstrong additionally suggested dimmable fixtures to allow later adjustment if neighbors reported problems.
