"Lindsay Lannon proposed the idea of a public information campaign called Safe9W which will aim to improve safety on Route 9W after multiple serious accidents many of which resulted in fatalities," she said, and described plans to compile police reports, highway studies and communications with the New York State Department of Transportation into a website to support change and advocacy.
Board members expressed support for the idea and suggested the campaign coordinate with the school board on school-related traffic issues and with NYSDOT on bridge and roadway congestion. Deputy Supervisor Appler and council members discussed forming a committee to pursue the effort and to gather local data that could inform requests to NYSDOT.
The presentation came alongside a brief public discussion of a recent fatal accident on Route 9W near New Road; no formal action was taken at the meeting, but the board recorded correspondence with NYSDOT, and residents were encouraged to share records and reports to support the advocacy campaign.
