Winter benchmark update: most students on track, MAP assessments sometimes "levels up" content

Director of Learning Dr. Kim Liles told the board that winter benchmarking using HMH, AimsWeb and MAP indicates the majority of students remain on track academically, but staff observed pockets of stagnation on Winter MAP scores.
Dr. Liles explained that MAP can "level up" students into content that had not yet been taught in class, which can temporarily depress scores even as instruction and student learning continue. She characterized this as a common testing phenomenon and framed the results as one data point in the district's larger assessment set.
The board received the update as informational. Dr. Liles and staff will use the winter data to guide instructional planning and to target interventions where data indicate needs.
